Frame numbering
Frame numbers were prefixed (1958) AL17-xxx.  (1959) BL17-xxx.

Model announcement
"Motor Cycling" 14 November 1957 (In Cavalier Fashion, page 36).

"The Motor Cycle", same date (The Cavalier Makes its Bow, page 590). 

The Cavalier is basically the Comet / Cadet frame with an AMC 171cc 17T engine fitted.  It had heavier (Captain) forks and a single rear damper was fitted as standard.
