In June 1953 James announced a pair of telescopic forks suitable for the rigid frame Comets.  The forks had been developed for the forthcoming plunger frame J11 Comet but were featured in "The Motor Cycle" for June 25 1953 as a retro-fit for earlier models.  It was claimed they could be fitted in under one hour by "any moderately skilful mechanic".

The kit comprised the fork, steering-head bearings, front brake plate and handlebar clamps for £9 10s in exchange for the old forks.  If a speedo was fitted the driving pinion had to be transferred to the offside of the rear wheel and a long drive cable was available for £1  2s  6d.                           See a period advert
