Frame numbering
Frame numbers were prefixed ML. 

The M.L. is a civilian version of a machine developed for the Ministry of Supply in the war which, at the end of the war, continued into civilian production.

Model announcement
 "The Motor Cycle" 15 January 1948 carried an announcement for the M.L for that year.

"Motor Cycling" 26 December 1946 (Up James ! And don't spare the horses !, page 138.)  This is an account of a day riding Norman Hooton's 1946 M.L. trials bike.

"Motor Cycling" March 31 / April 7 1955 carried "Service Series" articles that dealt with the forks & gearbox.
