Frame numbering
Frame numbers were prefixed with model code. J5-xxx. 

Model announcement
"The Motor Cycle" 23 October 1952 (Attractive James Lightweights, page 478).

 "Motor Cycling" for the same date (Extensive Range of James Models, page 648). 

The model was introduced as the J5 Cadet Mkll.

Road tests
"The Motor Cycle" 30 April 1953 (Road Tests of New Models, page 523).

As first announced the rear frame was of a different design to that used in production.  This is shown in illustration and photos so at least one machine was built this way.
