Frame numbering Frame numbers were prefixed (1953 / 1954) J9/xxx.  (1955) 55J9-xxx. 
   
Engine 1953. Villiers Mk 6E Comp. 197cc.  59mm x 72mm.
1954 on.  Villiers Mk 7E.  197cc.  59mm x 72mm.
Gears Three speed.  For 1954 there were wide ratios.  A four speed box was optional.
Frame Single downtube with detachable rigid rear.
Forks Model 6 fork with oil-damped two-rate springs
Fork oil capacity 1953 - 54: ¼ pint per leg
1955:  165cc per leg.  SAE 50
Tyres Dunlop Trials Universal tyres.  21" x 2.75" front.  19" x 4.00" rear.
Wheel rims Dunlop WMO 36 hole
Ignition timing 5/32" before top dead centre.
Points gap 0.015"
Plug gap 0.018" - 0.025"
Plug type Original spec. Lodge CB 3
Carburettor Villiers Type S.24
Jet size Main jet 120cc
Needle No. 3½
Needle setting 1.9" out.
Tank capacity 2¼ gallons approximately.  Use of unleaded fuel will cause no problems
Petroil mixture 16:1 as originally specified. Can be safely reduced to 24:1 with modern oils.
Gearbox capacity Remove oil level screw on side of engine casing and oil filler screw on top of casing.  Fill oil through the filler opening until oil begins to run out through the level plug hole. The correct level of oil is then assured.  Check it regularly.  Castrol "D"  SAE 140
Chaincase capacity Not applicable as the primary chain runs within the gearbox.
Chains Chains and sprockets varied according to gearing and whether a 3 or 4 speed gearbox was fitted.

Bulbs: Direct. Main bulb:  6v - 30 / 30w. S.B.C.
Tail lamp: 6v - 3w M.B.C.
Parking lamp bulb:  3.5v - 15 amp M.E.S.
