On the 'F' series 98cc engines the engine number is stamped onto the nearside crankcase half just beneath the cylinder
On most early 'C', 'D' & 'E' series engines the number will be on the front engine lug.
On later engines the number was often found on a plate rivetted to the chaincase on the nearside.
On A.M.C. 150cc, 175cc, 200cc &250cc engines the number was stamped across the front engine lug
